The Kachin Women’s Peace Network (KWPN) was established in April 2012 with the purpose of addressing women’s specific needs, including security and protection issues in emergencies, and to advocate for women’s participation in the peace process. Now, the KWPN is comprised of a group of 70 dedicated Kachin women volunteers from different regions. These Kachin women, from different professional backgrounds, grouped together to respond to the needs of women affected by the armed conflict that re-commenced in Kachin State in 2011. All Kachin women who are interested in peace, security, and protection can join as a member and other women’s groups and networks are welcome to collaborate with KWPN, which is a leading group in terms of advocacy. KWPN is a network of women leaders operating throughout Kachin and Northern Shan. Their key field staff are 14 ‘focal points’; rural women who give trainings on gender-based issues. KWPN carries our advocacy on women’s peace and security issues, network strengthening among Kachin women and its partner organisations, women’s empowerment for women in leadership roles, and research on themes connected to women, peace, and security.
Under the DPP, KWPN is implementing activities on women, peace, and security, including delivering conflict resolution, dialogue, mediation, and negotiation trainings.
