Naushawng Development Institute (NDI) is a local NGO working for better education and youth development, in addition to running a community school. Its main objective is to “invest in education, shape the future”. NDI was officially formed in April 2009 by Kachin scholars committed to strengthening democracy and community development in both Kachin and northern Shan. NDI is a registered organisation with the Myanmar Government and have a good relationship with the Kachin State Government. NDI contributes to democratic transition, peace building, and sustainable development in Myanmar through training; education; advocacy; research and policy development analysis, as well as civic engagement and networking. Naushawng is the Kachin name for the leaders who guide thousands of people in the traditional Manau dance: we see education as our leader. NDI believes that through education it can enable young people to become future leaders, who can develop responses to the key issues facing our citizens.
Under the DPP, NDI is working with young people from IDP camps and host communities in Kachin State, including through providing civic and peace education. Their DPP project is a high school for youth from conflict-affected areas.
