Humanity Institute (HI) is a registered organization founded on January 4, 2012, with a vision to build a prosperous society with human dignity, freedom, equality, justice, and peace in northern Myanmar. In order to achieve the vision of the organization, the working structure, the policies, and the human rights issues to be focused on for the year by the organization are decided by the Board of Directors. There are two core units: the Human Rights & Legal Department, and School of Arts and Social Sciences. HI undertakes projects related to education, legal consultation and aid, social science research, advocacy, peace building, social cohesion, and developing publications.
Under the DPP, Humanity Institute has two core programmes: an educational programme for young people and a media project in collaboration with Democratic Voice of Burma, which includes a ‘Kachin Times’ journal and an online media website, as well as a newsletter focusing on peace and justice issues. This project will include training ‘civilian journalists’ and researching conflict and landmine contamination in Myitkyina and Bhamo districts.
